Shaka Laka Boom Boom

This Friday, ‘Shaka Laka Boom Boom’ hit the silver screens. Though, it was not much awaited by the junta, but still a few expected it to be atleast ‘average’. I don’t want to disappoint all you Deol and Upen fans, but the fact is that the movie didn’t even qualify for being an ‘average’.

In the film, Bobby Deol is essaying the role of ‘AJ’, and Upen Patel of ‘Reggie’. AJ is an established singer with five hit albums under his belt and the sixth one is on its way. The guy has good female fan following and is happy with the way the music industry has accepted him. Reggie is an upcoming singer and has oodles of attitude. When AJ meets him, he feels threatened because Reggie writes good music as well as lyrics. He realizes that his days on the top are numbered.

Though, Reggie is popular in the discos, no one has heard about him and he has yet to release an album. So Bobby Deol plays a negative role and Upen comes out as the hero. But if you all are looking for a good story, then stay at your homes and don’t even think of watching ‘Shaka Laka Boom Boom’.

In the whole movie, Bobby is just planning for Upen’s downfall. It seems like the director set out to make a thriller and ended up in musical fiasco that has neither “sur” nor “taal”!!! Coming to the music, Himesh Reshammiya now sounds very predictable, and even a small baccha can make out with his familiar nasal voice. It seems that the guy doesn’t want to experiment with any other genre.

Booby Deol did not get a chance to display his acting skills because he has no substantial role to play and the script is monotonous. Although a bland role, hunky Upen had a good screen presence and seems adamant on putting his best foot forward in whichever project he undertakes. To be honest, he is talented and he does impress.

Kangana Raunat is notch better than Celina Jaitley, who appears to be still in the ‘Red’ mode. Her acting seems to be an extension of Vikam Bhatt’s ‘Red’ and there is no difference in portraying of her role in this movie.

Anupam Kher is the only person who emerges as a winner in the film, because it is when he enters, the movie seems to be a “MOVIE”. But then he is an actor who is a league apart.

When the movie finishes, it leaves you wondering that why the movie was named so. To analyze it in one line it is just boring as ‘Delhi Heights’, and if you still want to watch it, then better leave your brains behind and go.

Sunny’s ‘Big Brother’ is soon to release this month and so is Abhay’s ‘Ek Chalis Ki Last Local’. The opening of the Deol festival was pretty jejune…let’s see how the other two movies fare.
