Mrs P.K. Mahal and Mrs. K.K. Jutla are actively participating in the Week-end to End Breast Cancer event, August 25-27, 2006. Instead of the bad press that our community gets for being terrorists or being up to no good, as perceived in Canadian society, there are those of us who are doing good things. We are training to get into top shape. Our team is called Enhancing Lives, both of us are Sikh Indo-Canadians. Cancer is a taboo subject in our community, no-one ever talks about it openly; so, the ones suffering have no emotional support. We want everyone to learn not to be afraid to discuss it and to know that there is hope and that emotional well-being is part of the recovery process.Did you know that 1 in 9 Canadian women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year, irrespective of race or religion. That is more than 21,000 women and over 5,000 will not survive. However, for 16,000 men and women, there is hope. Let us fight together to give them a chance.
