The Apex court has let the issue to be decided by the Court of the concerned Magistrate on the basis of the report submitted by the special investigation team.
It is reported that the special investigation team (SIT) has given a clean chit to the Gujarat Chief Minister in its confidential report.
BJP elated with the ruling
The BJP was quick to react and senior leader Arun Jaitly said that there was no evidence to prove the involvement of the CM in the riots and the Supreme court order vindicates the stand of their party.
Expressing similar views, BJP’s Sushma Swaraj, leader of opposition in Lok Sabha said that Modi has successfully passed his ‘Angipareeksha’ and ultimately it is the victory of the truth.
Veteran leader of the party L K Advani said that the verdict comes as a big relief for the BJP. Narendra Modi tweeted ‘God is great’ while expressing his joy at the Supreme Court ruling.
No clean chit to Modi, argues Congress
The Congress and the left parties have rejected the arguments of the BJP and have claimed that the ruling of the Supreme Court in which it has decided to not to monitor the cases related with Gujarat riots is in no way a clean chit to the Gujarat CM.
Union Law Minister and Congress leader Salman Khurshid said “The Supreme Court has said SIT must put its report before the Magistrate (in Ahmedabad)…. All this is still to happen and BJP is claiming they are in the clean and are acquitted… I want to know whether they are privy to inside records of Supreme Court, High Court or the trial court.”
