Rs14.41bn irrigation project for Punjab; Ludhiana gets passport office

Nearly 50 percent of the food grain stock to the country is provided by Punjab, which is dependent on irrigation canals to get sufficient water for crops.

Project will help check loss of water
The Rs14.41 billion project sanctioned by Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal will benefit the farmers by examining the loss of water in canal system due to leakages in side-lining and minor breaches.

Besides, the state irrigation department has been directed by the chief minister to maintain regular cleaning of canals and make proper use of water.

The government also approved Rs. 540 crore for Kandi canal Stage-II project and has directed the accomplishment of Rs118.05 crore project for the canalization of Sakki Nallah.

Ludhiana finally gets a passport office
Ludhiana finally got lucky and had a passport office set-up in the city. This news was a great source of relief for the local residents and residents of the adjoining areas.

Manish Tewari, local MP and national spokesperson of the All India Congress Committee, confirmed the news and said that the building and the infrastructure of the office is almost complete and is likely to be inaugurated next month by a senior central minister.

The passport office is located at the Rarewala market near bus stand.

Earlier, people had to go to Chandigarh for passport applications and queries, but now the local and near-by residents of Ludhiana can avail of a local passport office.
