PPCB urges people to report against violators

Ludhiana, April 25: Come summers and power shutdowns force people seeking comfort using invertors. This leads to increased air as well as noise pollution all around.

This time, the PPCB (Punjab Pollution Control Board) is going to take it heavily on those causing air and noise pollution. The board has even urged people to immediately report the administration if they find their neighbors using invertors and generators.

Environment engineer SP Garg stated that PPCB allows generators only for industrial units. “However, domestic consumers violate norms by using generators in residential areas too. To launch a crackdown on errant consumers, we have advised residents to lodge complaints with the PPCB. The city is already reeling under pollution, and domestic consumption will further worsen the surroundings,” Garg added.

As per the norms of PPCB, those living in residential areas can not make use of generators; however, commercial units in industrial areas can make use of generators with prior permission from the board.

“Noise frequency limits in industrial areas is 75 decibel for daytime, while it is 70 db for night. In case of commercial units, the noise limit is 65 db (day) and 55 db (night). Besides, in sensitive areas like hospitals and educational institutes, the limit is lower at 50 db and 40 db, and 50db and 45db in domestic areas,” say the PPCB rules.
