MSD proved once again that he is a big match player. His gusty hitting at the end of the innings proved decisive as RPS beat MI by 20 runs in the 1st qualifier of IPL 10.
The jam packed Wankhede Stadium witnessed the glorious form of Dhoni as he smashed an unbeaten 40 off 26 balls. MSD’s knock was studded with 5 hits over the fence.
Earlier, MI skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and had no hesitation in putting the opposition into bat. MI had things under control right till the 18th over.
The title holders however conceded 41 runs in the last two overs and that proved to be the difference in the match. This win was RPS’s third consecutive win over MI this season.
The crux of the matter is that RPS is in the finals of IPL 10. That is a massive achievement for a team that struggled last season.
“Last year wasn’t our year, we didn’t play as well as we would have loved to, but it is a new year and hopefully we will start off well,” Steve Smith, captain of RPS had said at the start of the tournament.
Table toppers MI will now meet the winner of Eliminator 1 to be played between SRH and KKR on May 17, 2017.
KKR will have to pull up their socks as they have lost 4 out of the last 7 outings. Meanwhile, SRH are on a high with their captain David Warner exhibiting the ‘Midas Touch’ this season.
