The 10th edition of the IPL is more than half way through. The immensely popular tournament has had its highs and lows this year. Some teams like KKR and SRH, as expected, have done exceedingly well. However, one team, unexpectedly, has made an ignominious exit.
RCB, which boasts of flamboyant players like Gale, ABD and Virat Kohli, purportedly the best chaser in world cricket, just could not live up to the expectations.
After a string of poor batting performances, the Bangalore franchise put up another dismal batting display and fell short by 61 runs chasing Pune’s 157.
The team total read 96. Of these Virat had scored 55, the only RCB batsman to reach double figures in the match. What do you say of such a performance? Even Kohli did not have an answer.
“I think it’s for everyone to see we lost that game. It’s hard for a captain to stand here and speak after a performance like this,” Kohli said in the post match presentation.
RCB, with only 3 wins out of the 10 matches played have no chance of making it to the playoffs.
“We are pretty much not in the race for the Playoffs. All we can do is enjoy the four remaining games,” said Virat Kohli.
There could be more than one reason for RCB’s overall failure in this IPL. However, in the match against Pune, Lockie Ferguson stupendous bowling effort wherein he picked two wickets and conceded only seven runs from four overs, played a pivotal role in breaking RCB’s back.
