The D-Day is here. The cat is out of the bag. The Congress has spoiled the ruling party’s apple cart and is all set to dethrone the Akali government. The counting is in progress, but there is little left to wait for.
Congress is leading in 76 of the 117 seats in the state. This means that Captain Amarinder’s led Congress has easily breached the 59 level mark needed for an absolute majority. Meanwhile, AAP, which was very enthusiastic after the exit polls suggested that people of Punjab have opted for a change of guard, has garnered 23 seats.
The SAD-BJP alliance with merely 17 seats is definitely down and surely out. Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal will resign tomorrow even as he is leading in his constituency Lambi.
The veteran of Punjab’s political landscape congratulated Punjab Congress president Captain Amarinder Singh and promised to extend full support to him. Meanwhile Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated the steward of the Congress party and wished a long and healthy life to Captain Amarinder on his birthday.
AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal was quoted as saying, “We accept people’s mandate. All volunteers worked hard. We accept people’s mandate. All volunteers worked hard. Our struggle will continue.”
Captain Amarinder Singh thanked the people of Punjab, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. Meanwhile Navjot Singh Sidhu said that the mandate has defeated Akali arrogance and that this is the beginning of Congress’s revival and spread.
