Raees has reached its apex in India. The flick is doing tremendously well. However, it has run into rough weather in Pakistan.
The Central Censor Board has decided to put the release of the SRK starrer on hold citing that the film depicts Muslims in an inappropriate manner.
Sources having knowledge of the matter said that the movie has been banned in Pakistan as its “content undermines Islam, and a specific religious sect, (It also) portrays Muslims as criminals, wanted persons and terrorists”.
This is not Raees’ first brush with controversy. The sour India Pakistan relations earlier led Pakistani actor Mahira Khan not coming to India for the promotion of the film. She ultimately promoted the film while interacting with the Indian media through a video call.
The producers had heaved a sigh of relief when the authorities in Pakistan had removed a general ban on Bollywood films. However, Raaes, scheduled to be released in Pakistan on February 10, has hit another stumbling block.
Mahira Khan had said during the promotional campaign, “You know there are more SRK fans than mine. Claps were louder for him, not me. It will release in Pakistan, and everybody is waiting.”
The wait for SRK’s die-hard fans in Pakistan just got longer.
Raees has amassed Rs 135 crore since its release in India.
