The records lie broken and the business booms! Rajinikanth’s Kabali has done amazing well at the box office and it shows a whopping collection Rs 650 crore, surging far ahead of Salman Khan’s Sultan.
Rajinikanth has made waves once again. His movies normally seem to have the golden touch and do wonders at the box office. Except for i that showed a mild slump, his latest offering “Kabali”, has ruffled feathers all over. The flick that has been made on a budget of Rs 75 crore, has turned into a money-spinner surging on unabated, gathering money and making a strong impact in India as well as world over. Salman Khan’s Sultan lost the race as Kabali’s official box office figures show a collection of almost Rs 650 crores.
Rajinikanth’s Kabali , the juggernaut at the box-office, was released on July 22nd and it “broke multiple records when it did a box office collection of Rs 48 crore on the first day itself”. Now it has made another global impact by earning Rs 650 crore, and out of this Rs 211 crores are pertaining to India. North India has never been Rajinikanth’s area, but surprisingly out of the Rs 211 crores, Rs 40 crore are North India’s BO collections, confirm the analysts. Rs . 259 crores are said to have been gathered from foreign markets.
Kabali has made its presence felt all over the world and has done amazingly good business in US, Malaysia and Japan. Before its release, Kabali had already started making an impact through satellite rights and its music and earned Rs 200 crores. Analysts are speculating that the film “may touch Rs 700 crore” soon and this will be a record breaking figure.
According to a thrilled Producer S Thanu, “I will never forget these days in my life. This release has given me so much happiness. It has broken the collection records of Indian cinema in the last 100 years.”
Production investment-speculation reports state that “Out of the Rs 75 crore, the lead artist was paid about Rs 50-60 crore”. Young budding technicians and limited foreign locale visits helped in keeping production investment curtailed. The astonishing fact is that Rajinikanth’s influence on fans in Malaysia is enormous. This was recognized by the fact that all luxury vehicles and cars that were a part of the shooting scenario, were given to favorite “Rajini sir” by his Malaysian Tamil fans till the shooting got over! Can you imagine the amount of money this must have helped the production house save? Keep calculating!
