Unites States has always played a huge role in immigration but in the year 2012, a strange happening was noticed in the United States of America. The borders saw a huge number of juvenile travelers who were trying to get a way into the USA and that too all alone, without any elders to accompany them.
Abused, neglected, derelict and abandoned juvenile children from places like Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador, escape their homes to enter the United States. There are thousands of children or migrants from Central America who desire to get Asylum in the U.S.
The U.S. Border Patrol reported that in the last two years and six months almost 120,000 children who had no adult accompanying them had arrived at the borders of South America and most of them wanted an asylum. Asylum is not easy to obtain and thus immigrants have decided to avail the “Special Immigrant Juvenile Status,” and stay legally in the country.
Reports state that,”The was created for undocumented minors who have been abused, abandoned or neglected by parents in their home country. The applicants have to meet other criteria as well, including being unmarried, law abiding, and meeting an age limit”.
Plenty of minors are unable to bear the atrocities of elders in their families and they end up running away because they are unable to bear the trauma any more. They fear their lives and rush for the borders to cross over to U.S, to live a life of safety. Some of them are taken for immigration by their savior or guardian angels. But at times children of the same family who have immigrated at different times suffer because of a separate outcome of their immigration status.
Seeing the number increase astronomically President Obama, who was gravely affected by these incidents of Central America and the borders, sent a “message of deterrence” to these minors and their parents. He spoke about the issue stating “While we intend to do the right thing by these children, their parents need to know that this is an incredibly dangerous situation and it is unlikely that their children will be able to stay.”
U.S has been bearing the burden of a lot of illegal immigrants and this step may reduce the illegal immigration into the United States of America. Is coming to the US a “visa” desire or is it the unbearable trauma?
In April this year the visa permissions for the accompanied minors had touched the maximum figure and there were a large number of immigrants left still with the demand for visas increasing further. President Obama had earlier requested for extra funding from Congress to take care of these unaccompanied kids from Cetral America but now the special immigrant juvenile visas have been put on limbo, till things are sorted better!
