Beware! Losing teeth is not just a cosmetic issue.
According to the findings of a new study, not observing good oral care and losing teeth subsequently may hint to cognitive impairment or dementia.
Based on the findings of the study, adults with less than 20 teeth were at a 20 percent higher risk for developing cognitive decline and dementia in later years as compared to their counterparts who had 20 or more teeth.
The study was conducted by the International and American Associations for Dental Research. The findings appear in the current issue of the journal JDR Clinical & Translational Research.
Researchers suggest that in order to reduce the risk of disease like dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, adults need to observe good oral care.
