Food to Eat During Pregnancy
A woman must look after her health and diet not only during pregnancy but before that only. If she has been putting on and shedding weight at short interval then she must work out to have a healthy weight before she plans for pregnancy.
Food to eat during pregnancy:
She must have a well-balanced diet which comprises of fish, milk products, green leafy vegetables, fruits, eggs, meat, fat ( butter, oils, margarine, dairy products and nuts) and carbohydrates ( found in bread, pasta, potatoes, rice, corn and other grain products). You can have protein from eggs, dairy products, fish, meat etc.
Include food items from each group every day in your meal.
Folic Acid:
Various studies have proved that intake of folic acid along with multivitamins during pregnancy helps in protecting child from various defects like spina bifida and other congenital malformations such as cleft palate or cleft lip.
Good natural sources of folic acid are barley beans, fruit, dark green leafy vegetables, orange juice, lentils, peas and rice. One can also take folic acid supplements, starting from before conception to during the first three months of pregnancy. Discuss with your doctor about the dosage and the duration.
Fiber:
Eat rich fiber food content like green vegetables, fresh fruits, green salads, whole grains etc.
Calcium:
Calcium can be obtained by eating healthy diet and including milk, dairy products, calcium fortified juices, and calcium supplements in your diet regime.
Iron:
A woman needs more iron than usual during pregnancy. Good sources for obtaining iron are dark leafy green vegetables such as broccoli and spinach, strawberries, muesli, wholemeal bread and meats. She must get herself checked for anemia.
So, eat healthy and give birth to a healthy baby.
