Chandigarh, The City Beautiful derived it's name from temple of goddess Chandi (the Chandi Mandir) located in nearby Panchkula District of Haryana. The word Chandigarh literally means "the fort of Chandi".

The city was designed by French architect Le Corbusier and built largely in the 1950’s. It acts as a dual capital for two main states in India namely, Punjab and Haryana. However, the city doesn’t belong to any one of them but is a Union Territory administered by Government of India. It brags to get the title of FIRST planned modern city of India.
The credit for the most efficient public and residential building raised in the city between 1950 and 1965 goes to three architects, Swiss-born French architect and planner Le Corbusier, along with his cousin who assisted him Pieree Jeanneret and the English couple E.Mazwell Fry and Jane B. Druel.
People from different cultures such as Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Buddhists, Jains, Christian etc live in the city with harmony and it is they whom the city belongs. They are proud to be resident of city beautiful and don’t want to leave it at any cost.

Rock Garden
Chandigarh's landmarks, it is the art work of Nek Chand, a humble transport official who created the items with the industrial waste and thrown away materials.
Rose Garden
Zakir Hussain Rose Garden, Asia's largest Rose Garden is situated in the Sector 16 and it has 1600 different varieties of roses and is spread over 30 acres of land. Due to this reason the beautiful city is also known as 'City of roses’.
Sukhna Lake
It is a large lake at the foothills of Shivalik Hills which is the gift of Le Corbusier and the Chief Engineer P L Verma to the city beautiful. It has golf course on one border and Rock garden on the other border. The lake is close to nature and hence tourists and locals flock to get the feel of natural warmth. It has also got a eating place and children's park.
Sector 17 (Shopping Centre)
The heart of the city, Sector 17 has shopping complex which not only comprises of big shops and eating joints but has also got many public and government offices. The market comes in full swings in the evenings when ultimate lighting effect are on full swings, on Saturdays carnival is arranged which draws not only youngsters but all generation towards the city heart.
