These are the jobs that the country needs to fill from outside as there is a shortage of skilled people in the above mentioned fields, reported the Migration Advisory Committee(MAC).
It may be noted that although the country has been facing recession, yet, there exists a scarcity of skilled labor in the country, which also includes vacancies of skilled manpower for teaching, electricity transmission and specialist medicine.
The skilled labor shortage list seems to be quite inclusive as the nation also needs to attract workers from abroad to be recruited as musicians, dancers and nurses.
Giving details about the skilled manpower shortage faced by the country, chairman of the panel, David Metcalf, stated in an email, “This can be where there is a long-term structural shortage of skilled workers, where workers provide key public services, or in areas such as culture where the U.K. needs to maintain global leadership.”
Meanwhile, due to the global recession, the unemployment rate in the country is already quite alarming, touching 7.9 percent in August 2009. It has compelled the government to cut a few jobs in the selected fields. To cope up with the resulting economic crisis, the panel has sought to remove some of the construction and engineering jobs, hovercraft and ship officers from the list.
UK had already restricted the entry of foreign workers into the country, especially from countries other than the European Union, by introducing a points-based migration system.
