While the older issues like the 2G spectrum scam are going to be hotly debated, there are new issues too, like the Mumbai terror attacks and the allegations against the prime minister and the finance minister levelled by the former telecom minister, A. Raja.
Several issue before the parliament
The prime minister has called for the cooperation of all the parties for the smooth functioning of the parliament.
The prime minister, however, appeared to be ready for a showdown as he told the reporters that his government was not scared of a debate on any matter in the parliament and that the “opposition too had several skeletons” in the cupboard.
He also urged the opposition parties to refrain from pre-judging in the 2G spectrum case as the matter was being tried in a court of law.
Meanwhile, the PMO dismissed the recent reports that the prime minister decided to look the other way in the allotment of 2G spectrum licenses.
A statement by the PMO read, “A number of unwarranted inferences have been drawn from this noting without considering the issue that was being examined and the context in which these directions were conveyed.”
There are several issues that will require the collective efficiency of the parliament, like the Lokpal bill.
Opposition ready to corner the government
The leader of the opposition Sushma Swaraj said that the prime minister has started the confrontation even before the start of the session.
“See he has started it. The government is free to bring out all the arrows in its quiver. Let us see who has more arrows in its quiver,” she said, daring the government.
The opposition attack is expected to be concentrated on the issue of corruption, especially after the BJP made its CM, Yeddyurappa, resign after his indictment in the mining scam by the state Lokpal.
