SGPC elections to be delayed due to floods in Punjab, Haryana
At a press conference held on Friday, Chief Commissioner of the gurdwara elections, Justice H S Brar said, “Sometime back, both governments of Punjab and Haryana had requested that the electoral roll making process could be delayed as the officials who have to make these electoral rolls are busy in flood relief measures due to the recent floods in both the states.”
He stated that the recent floods that affected Ropar, Fategarh Sahib, Ludhiana and Ferozepur districts in Punjab and Ambala, Kurukshetra, Sirs and Fetehabad districts in Haryana have kept the ‘patwaris’ busy.
Thought the new elections date are yet to be released, the registration date for the voters has not been changed and will remain Aug. 14.
“If any keshdhari Sikh wants to get registered as voter he has to approach the deputy commissioner concerned and then only it is possible after the DC totally satisfied himself over the delay,” he said.
Till now, 52.36 lakh people in Punjab and 3.07 lakh people in Haryana have got themselves registered.
In Himachal Pradesh only 7,200 people have been registered so far and 11,986 people from Chandigarh have got registered.
