New Delhi, July 8: L K Advani, BJP’s senior leader, urged his party MP’s to be cautious of the corporate lobbyists.

Advani asked the party MP’s not be influenced by them and be
careful before enrolling a person as a Personal Assistant (PA).

What Prompted the words of wisdom
Advani’s advice came after BJP’s image was dismantled when six of the party MP’s were caught red handed during a cash-for-questions in parliament scam.

Thus he gave an advice to his MP’s specially the newly elected ones, to ensure that there is no repetition of such an incident.

How and when the MP's were caught
Around 11 MP’s were caught red handed in September 2005, 10 belonging to the Lok Sabha, and one to the Rajya Sabha, accepting bribes for raising questions in the two parliament houses, during a sting operation.

Of these, 6 belonged to BJP, with BSP (3), Congress and RJD (one each) summing the list.

The BJP share included M K Patil, Y G Mahajan, Pradeep Gandhi, Suresh Chandel, Chandra Pratap Singh (all members of the Lok Sabha) and Chhatrapal Singh Lodha (Rajya Sabha).

The MP’s who were caught were removed from their offices being “unethical and unbecoming” of members of Parliament. The incident led down the party’s image.

Meeting held to avoid further incidents
Advani held a meeting on Tuesday urging the party MP’s to prevent the repetition of the episode.

“The country is going through an intense corporate war. Corporate lobbyists are moving around the city scouting for MPs who could pose questions in Parliament on their behalf.

"Don’t sign the questions merely on somebody’s request,” Mr Advani told the parliamentary party members.

“Please prepare your questions yourselves, and don’t leave the work to your PAs,” he further advised them.
