Heavy floods in Punjab, this year, worsened the conditions of people as well as the agricultural land. Over 3.25 lakh acres of land submerged under water causing a loss worth Rs 480 crore.

Apart from paddy crop, the recent floods in Punjab also destroyed cotton sown in an area measuring around 9,200 acres.

According to the figures shown by the Department of Agriculture, 2000 acres of standing crop have reported to get damaged in Faridkot district alone.

Affected areas
Cotton is the major crop which is sown in the western districts of Punjab like Faridkot, Moga, Mansa, Ferozepur, Sangrur, Bathinda and Patiala.

Reportedly, the crop got damaged in areas like Doka, Tehna, Kameana, Veerewala, Nanagla, Chameli, Dhidhi, Mandwala, Dhurkot, Jeewanwala and Aulakh villages of district Faridkot.

Agriculture Development officer Kiranjit Singh asserted, “This crop is grown in low-lying areas and the floodwater has stagnated in the fields here. With the sun shining bright for the last couple of days, this water has warmed up and damaged the crop."

"Also the rainfall that we had today will spell further doom for the crop. There could be an outbreak of a pest attack too,” he added.
