Punjab stuns Bangalore in a one-sided match

Adam Gilchrist played a hurricane innings in a one-sided match against Royal Challengers Bangalore, helping KXI Punjab taste their fourth victory in a row.

Yesterday in a match between KXI Punjab and RC Bangalore at HPCA stadium, Dharamshala, skipper Gilchrist played a captain’s knock of 106 runs off 55 balls that included 9 sixes and 8 fours.

Shaun Marsh scored 79 off 49 balls with 7 fours and 5 sixes. Punjab won by a huge margin of 111 runs, second highest margin ever.

This defeat didn’t affect Bangalore too much, as they maintained their top position with 17 points. KXI Punjab with 14 points has improved their run rate drastically from -0.183 to +0.271.

After the match, Gilchrist said, “It was an important game for us and we had to win the match… And to cap off the win by 111 runs would boost our run-rate, which might come into the equation later provided we win the remaining match.”

After winning the toss, KXI Punjab coming to bat, didn’t do well in first six overs, and lost opener Valthaty with 25 runs on screen. He made 20 off 17 balls.

After his wicket, Bangalore was hammered all over the ground for the next 16 overs by Gilchrist and Marsh. Gilchrist hit the longest six (122 metres) off Langevedlt’s over. JJ van der Wath was the most expensive of all the bowlers. He gave 50 off four overs.

Coming to chase a mammoth total of 233 runs, all eyes were on Chris Gayle, the match winner for Bangalore in previous matches. But his departure for zero broke the batting side. After his departure, they couldn’t recover.

AB de Villiers topped the batting chart by hitting 34 off 27 balls. They could only manage to make 121 run in 17 overs they played. Piyush Chawla and Harris took four and three wickets respectively.

Gilchrist for his match-winning innings was declared man-of-the-match.
