Punjab receives pre-monsoon showers
The much needed and desperately awaited showers were welcomed by all and sundry especially the farming community and the industrialists. The rains brought a drop in the rising temperatures in the state.
Light showers were reported from Jalandhar and adjoining areas late evening on Monday, breaking the long dry spell in the region. Meanwhile, the cities of Hoshiarpur, Ludhiana and Talwara got a good spell of rain as the day was heading for a close.
These rains are being seen to provide some solace to the overworked power distribution system of Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB). PSEB had earned consecutive anger and wrath of residents of Punjab, in the wake of increased power cuts making life miserable in the extremely hot conditions.
Not only power conditions may improve in Punjab, also, the rains will bring improvement in the supply of the potable water in the state facing drought-like conditions. Many residents had been hit hard this summer finding it difficult to quench their thirst with water as there has been acute shortage of potable water in many places of Punjab.
