Reportedly, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) employees called a 24 hours strike in Mohali, Kharar and other parts of the district on Wednesday.

The strike has been observed on the joint call of the Technical Services Union and PSPCL Employe's Federation, who has protested against the implementation of the 'Electricity Act, 2003'.

The 'Electricity Act, 2003' has proposed privatisation of the Power Board. The Reports say that the vacant seats have not been filled up yet and hence, the employees went on strike, demanding to fill the vacant seats and fulfill the pending demands.

The cash counters remained closed, adding woes to people's life as they were unable to pay their electricity bills.

The protesters staged dharnas and rallies outside their respective offices and threatened to intensify the stir, if their demands were not fulfilled.

Because of strike, the faults in power supply were not rectified.

While, the power supply to Phase IX in Mohali (behind Punjab School Education Board headquarters) was restored after remaining suspended for almost 12 hours.

Along with this, several villages including Cholta, Pannuan, Theri, Ghoga, Bassian, Dharak and Deh Kalan, had to manage without electricity.
