Abbotsford, UK, June 20: Nearly 300 Sikhs gathered at a Sikh temple on Blueridge Drive in Abbotsford, carrying placards in their hands and chanting slogans.

They were protesting to stop Maan Singh Pehova, a controversial religious preacher in India, from addressing a public gathering at the Sikh temple.

The angry protestors gathered on the street leading to the Blueridge Drive, making movement of the vehicles difficult.

Pehowa was to address a religious gathering at the Kalgidhar Khalsa Darbar Temple. Pehowa, who has been facing several charges in India, reached the Sikh shrine along with a convoy at around 7.45 p.m. the protestors chanted slogans demanding Pehowa to move out of the shrine.

According to sources, some of the protestors belonged to other communities.

The protestors were given a reassurance that Pehowa will leave the temple. They were then asked by the officials of Abbotsford Police to move out of the temple or risk their arrest.

Pehowa has been facing rape allegations and his attempts to address religious gathering in different parts of the world, including North America, have proved futile in the recent past.

Bachitter Singh, a protestor, questioned the issue of Pehowa being allowed to address the gathering at the Sikh temple.

“The committee and the president, they should know everything. Why did they invite him here? It is wasting the time of the police and wasting the time of everybody,” Bachitter Singh stated.
