Meanwhile, in the year 2010, UK’s population will reach the 3 million mark.
As per the estimates by the New Office for National Statistics (ONS), the rising trend in population will continue further as the country reaches 3.14 million mark in 2018. It will likely surpass 70 million milestone in next 20 years touching all new highs in 2033 by reaching 71.6 million.
This is contradicting the claims made by the Labor ministers that the population of England is witnessing a slow increase because of a slump in the immigration in the recent times.
So, going by the estimates, the immediate concern for the government in Wales is to make appropriate provisions for housing as well as other social services including water, transport etc. for the increasing milieu.
Moreover, the rising trend in population, especially in Wales, is already at ‘the limit of environmental sustainability’.
As per the figures made available by United Nations and Britain, even now, England is the third most-crowded nation in the world and the population is likely to increase by nearly 180,000 every year as the number of immigrants increase in the coming times.
However, the fact that a large number of people immigrating to UK are choosing to settle in Wales is proving to be a blessing in disguise because it will solve the problem of shortage of skilled labor due to ageing populations in the city.
