According to the latest reports, Gurprem Singh was unanimously elected as the new president of the Kharar Municipal Corporation (MC) on Wednesday.

“Since no other candidate turned up for election, Gurprem was elected unanimously without opposition,” informed Kharar Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Rajeev Kumar Gupta, who was appointed as convener to conduct the election by Mohali Deputy Commissioner Parveen Kumar.

While all the 15 elected councilors of the Municipal Corporation were present, Kharar Congress MLA Balbir Sidhu, who has a voting right, was missing.

The newly-elected Kharar Municipal Corporation President Gurprem Singh said that his top priority will be the all-round development of the town.

“Improvement will be made in the provision of the basic civic amenities with the redressal of public demands and complaints would be addressed in a time-bound manner,” he asserted.

He has been appointed as the second president of the MC, following the recent demise of the previous MC President Sukhwant Singh.

Tourism Minister Hira Singh Gabria, who is party affairs in-charge for Mohali district of SAD and Morinda SAD MLA Ujjagar Singh Badali, arrived at the MC office soon after the election and congratulated the new MC President.

They also thanked the councilors for making an undisputed selection, which they declared as a triumph for SAD.
