New Delhi, July 29: In order to give a final call to the July 2 Delhi High Court verdict on gay sex, a three member board constituting of union ministers P. Chidambaram (Home), M. Veerappa Moily (Law) and Ghulam Nabi Azad (Health) has been set up by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

In a meeting held Tuesday, the board members critically analyzed the ruling that decriminalizes sex between two consenting partners. The Delhi HC order appeared “balanced” to them.

Ministers’ take
After the meeting, Moily told the reporters, “We have analyzed the judgment with full objectivity-what the judgment had said and what it had not said.

"Section 377 was not sought to be abrogated. Section 377 remains. The only question is decriminalization of private consensual sex between two adults.”

According to Chidambaram, a lot of misinformation about the HC judgment was there. He said, “One example is that the judgment has struck down Section 377, that is not correct.”

This was the second meeting of the three ministers, Moily said, adding, “We have not given any value judgment on the ruling.”

SC hearing postponed
As the religious leaders have shown resistance towards the gay sex ruling, the government is going very cautiously about the entire issue.

For the time being, the Supreme Court has postponed the hearing to Sept. 14.

However, prior to the final hearing, the centre has to decide its stand on the historic verdict.
