Floods affect crops on 375,000 acres of land in Punjab
The onslaught of heavy rains in the region resulted in floods in the states of Punjab and Haryana. This further resulted in physical and economic loss for the farmers.
Water has been drained-out from most of the agricultural land but still at many places in Moonak belt of Sangrur district, the farms are immersed in knee-deep water.
Replanting of the crops has been started in the areas and the flood water has been drained-out completely.
Water levels in reservoirs
The Gobind Sagar reservoir reported a water level of 1618.52 feet, with 61,229 cusecs inflow of water from the catchment area. The level fixed by the Bhakra Beas Management Board in the Gobind Sagar reservoir is 1,670 feet for Aug. 1.
The level of water in the Pong dam was 1321.33 feet and inflow was 49,035 cusecs, while the maximum filling level of this dam is bench-marked at 1,390.
In the Ranjit Sagar Dam, the level of water recorded today was 512.27 meter and inflow was 16,835 cusecs. The maximum filling level of Ranjit Sagar is 527 meter.
