Excise Department seizes 70kg gold bricks
A special team of Excise Department stopped the car at the check post and found three gold bricks weighing 70 kg.
Director pf Investigation of Excise and Taxation Department KVS Sidhu told the sources that two security guards, carrying rifles, along with a driver and caretaker of gold was travelling in the car.
Investigations by the team
Further investigation revealed that the accused were carrying gold from Delhi and were heading towards Kathua town of Jammu and Kashmir in order to supply the gold. They also admitted earlier supply of gold, twice in the same town.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (Rajpura), Manmohan Sharma told sources, “Although the occupants of the car had shown us the bills but they were very inconsistent in their statements. Therefore we detained them and started our investigation.”
“Also, a special investigation team have sent to Kathua to verify where they were supplying such a huge quantity of gold,” he added.
The bills disclosed that the gold was purchased from Ghana, located in West Africa, and was exported to India via UAE.
