Curfew in Kashmir, Omar calls party meeting today

The situation in Kashmir intensified especially after four people were killed in firing by the security forces in Kupwara and Baramulla district of J&K on Friday.

This resulted in cancellation of a high level security meeting of the United Headquarters, yesterday by Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

The meeting will be held today to assess the current situation in the state and control it.

Since last two months, the clashes between protestors and security forces have increased the death toll to 55.

Though the curfew was lifted earlier, it was imposed again as the fresh violence was reported.

People allowed to attend prayers at Jamia Masjid
After several weeks of restrictions and continuing curfew in the state, the people were allowed to visit the historic Jamia Masjid and hold their prayers, on Friday.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, the chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference, delivered the Friday sermon and said that the protests in Kashmir will end only if New Delhi accepts the Hurriyat proposal, including the withdrawal of forces and the repeal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act.

Farooq said, "The government is talking about confidence building measures, we have made four proposals and unless these are addressed, our protests will continue.”

Fresh firing cases were also reported in the wee hours today, in Singhpora Pattan area of Baramulla distirct.
