The continuing rains in the catchment areas of Yamuna, Markanda and Tangri since Aug. 21 have surged the water level of major rivers, Satluj, Beas and Yamuna.

Nearly, 2.73 lakh cusecs of water was released from the Hathikund Barrage in Yamuna, late Wednesday evening. This has lead to increase in flood threats in national capital, Delhi and four districts of Haryana.

Last week, 3.24 lakh cusecs of water was released from the barrage that resulted in further increase in water level.

Besides, 60,000 cusecs of water release from Bhakra dam on Wednesday has escalated the water level in Ravi.

Army was roped in to fix a 200 feet breach at Jammukhala complex in Yamunanagar. Nearly, hundreds of acres of agricultural land have been submerged under water.

Families residing near the low-lying areas have been shifted and proper safety arrangements have been made for them.

In order to maintain the water level in the Bhakra dam, the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) has been releasing excess water since Aug. 21 and the water level is being monitored by the officials.

The Himachal Pradesh is likely to get mild or moderate rains in the next three days. Continuous rains in this region have led to increase in the water level of major rivers.
