Reportedly, Dr. Kalam was asked to take off his shoes and undergo a security check at the IGI Airport as he was to fly to New York from New Delhi.
BCAS has yet not received the apology letter
Although, the US airlines have issued an apology but the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has yet not received the apology letter from the concerned airlines.
On the contrary, confirming the issue of an apology letter addressed to Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, the airlines stated, “We have tendered a formal apology and we sincerely hope he will fly with us again.
"Our intention was never to offend Dr. Kalam or the sentiments of the people of India.”
US airlines regret for causing inconvenience to Kalam
The formal apology letter stated that any misunderstanding or any inconvenience is sincerely regretted by the Continental Airlines.
“We reiterate our commitment to comply with the regulations mandated by local authorities (Bureau of Civil Aviation Security) and US authorities,” the letter stated further.
It may be worth mentioning that as per the Indian laws, dignitaries including Chief Justice of India, former presidents and ex-prime ministers are exempted from the security checks at airports.
