Bharat Bandh causes huge loss

Bharat Bandh observed by all the non-congress parties yesterday to protest against price rise and escalating prices of petro products affected the life of common people.

Though it was an aam admi protest, the protest caused a huge loss in few states.

States under BJP-led-NDA and Left parties affected
Due to the protests, Mumbai, Gujarat, New Delhi, Orissa, Bihar, Rajasthan, Kerala, Karnataka, Patna and some parts of Jharkhand were most-affected states.

Nearly, 40,000 personnel were deployed in Mumbai to control peace activities in the state.

Schools, colleges and domestic and international flights were closed due to protests. Even the trains were disrupted. All the government offices were shut down and the banks hardly saw any transactions yesterday.

Not only men, women also joined the protests, alleging the UPA government to be responsible for the surge in prices.

BJP President Nitin Gadkari declared the protest a ‘non-political issue’ and alleged that the protest was not against any caste, region or religion. The parties tried to raise the voices of the people to highlight bad governance and failed policies of UPA-II.

In Karnataka, the assembly was adjourned due to protests by the people. Anti-UPA government slogans were shouted by the protesters. They were even not ready to debate on price rise.

Rs 600 crore loss in Delhi
As per the reports by Confederation of All India Traders, Rs 600 crore loss was reported in the capital due to stringent protests by the non-congress parties. The government lost Rs 65 crore.

School and colleges were shutdown, Metro was blocked and tyres of about 25 buses were deflated.

Nearly, 77,000 officers were deployed to maintain law and order in the capital.
