Bhakra dam releases 61,200 cubecs of water
Bhakra dam’s water level had risen alarmingly to 1673.16 feet today, owing to the heavy downpour in the catchment areas of Himachal Pradesh. Nearly, 61,200 cusecs of water was released into the Sutlej River, Anandpur and Nangal hydel channels.
“Out of 61,200 cusecs, 38,550 cusecs was released into Sutlej River, while rest of the water was discharged in Nangal and Anandpur hydel channels," a BBMB official informed.
The release of water has raised the threat of flooding 12 villages in Anandpur Sahib region. The paddy crop in villages like Burj, Gajpur, Lodhipur and Chandpur Bel has already been reported as damaged due to the rising water level in the area.
Meanwhile, Haryana Engineer-in-Chief of Irrigation Harmail Singh said that this year's heaviest discharge of 3,24,365 cusecs has passed at Hathinikund Barrage (HKB) on Aug. 22.
“In the course of receding discharge by noon, the scouring on edge on right side of river Yamuna in a few pockets near village Kalesar, Bibipur, Bhogpur, Odri, Bagwali, Jathlana, Gumthala, Kamalpur Tapu has occurred.
Though the crops in some villages of Radaur Block have been damaged by silt, the river water has not entered any populated area and there is no loss of any property and human life in YamunaNagar district,” Harmail Singh added.
