It had lead to various problems, causing hardship to commuters, especially those residing in Sector 51- 52.
The Police allowed only students and staffers of Yadvindra Public School and Lawerance Public School in Sector 52 to pass.
Farmers to continue the protest
As farmers carried ample of vegetables, fruits and eatables with them, they are preparing their food at the protest site.
Also, they refused to take help and shelter from the local administration during the heavy downpour.
President Balbir Singh Rajewal stated, “We are used to face nature’s vagaries and we will continue to sit on the road in all situations till our demands are met or we are allowed to move towards Sector 17, Chandigarh.”
Tight security deployed at the protest site
The police didn't let the farmers to cross the border and enter Chandigarh. Equipped with anti-riots equipment like batons, teargas shells and water cannons, the Police force remained on its toes and kept the road totally barricaded.
Rajewal expressed his grievance and denied to resolve the protest until or unless their demands got fulfilled. “Our protest will remain totally peaceful and will continue till we get justice,” he vowed.
CM assures to fulfill the demands
Punjab CM was in Mohali on Wednesday, and admitted the delay in the disbursement of Rs 800 crore Central drought-relief package and attributed it to 'procedural technicalities.'
While talking to the media people, Badal stated that, “When farmers demand the distribution of package, they should also realise that state government had spent thousands of crore rupees on providing them free electricity.”
On commenting on Badal's statement, Rajewal quipped, “If the CM is so sympathetic towards farmers, why didn’t he came to us to have direct talks.”
