Reportedly, 31 sand mines in Ludhiana district managed to gather over Rs 3.30 crore against the reserve price of Rs 2.26 crore for the state exchequer, during the auction.

Reports revealed that the auction was also held for Faridkot and Moga districts. Eight mines of Faridkot were auctioned at Rs 47 lakh against the reserve price of Rs 24.15 lakh, and Moga's six mines were auctioned for Rs 62 lakh against the reserve price of Rs 18.18 lakh.

Ludhiana quoted the highest price
The auction was held at the Trade centre and tight security was arranged inside and outside the venue. Kuldeep Singh made the first bid at Rs 2.50 crore.

The winning bidder for Ludhiana was Parshant Joshi, who outbid all other bidders for sand mines, at Rs 3.30 crore.

The first bid for Faridkot came at Rs 25 lakh and ultimately went to Harnek Singh and Jaswinder Singh at Rs 47 lakh.

Chaos during the auction
One of the bidders, Gurdeep Singh, who was interested for Faridkot sand mines, raised his voice and lamented that the auction process was being carried out unlawfully.

He said, “I was about to bid further but the other party started shouting and my bid was lost in between. Things are not being carried in a transparent manner. If given a chance I would have bid up to Rs 50 lakh.”

Also, Additional Deputy Commissioner Kuldeep Singh repeatedly requested the people to maintain silence.

The Moga bidding started at Rs 30 lakh and was finally won by Balraj Singh and Parwinder Singh by bidding Rs 62 lakh.

The sand mining business is largely concentrated in Ropar, Mohali, Gurdaspur, Patiala and Ludhiana districts along the riverbeds of Sutlej, Ghaggar and Beas.
