This is due to the global recession resulting in severe economic crisis the world over. Otherwise, the availability of US H-1B visas is quite rare. USICS, a bureau of Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in United States, stated that nearly 53,800 H-1B cap-subject petitions have been filed till date. Meanwhile, sufficient H-1B petitions for candidates possessing higher qualifications have been already approved by USICS.
Last year, nearly 65,000 visa petitions were filed in a single day. The reason for the shortfall in the number of petitions this year is not just recession but also due to the stimulus package.
So, the general H-1B cap for new petitions from foreigners possessing higher degrees will be 65,000 and USICS will continue to accept applications for visas till this limit is reached. It may be mentioned that a few visa applications get revoked, withdrawn or revoked.
