BJP MP Navjot Singh Sidhu met Union Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel on Thursday to discuss regarding the withdrawal of direct flight between Amritsar and Toronto.

Concerns have been raised after speculations that two airline companies were withdrawing their services from Raja Sansi International Airport, Amritsar.

But the Air India (AI) officials confirmed that the service is not been withdrawn. Rather the flight has been re-routed via Delhi due to commercial aspects.

Sidhu motivates tour operators
Addressing the media, Sidhu said that the flight was not being withdrawn.

“We wish to request the foreign tour operators to apply for the charter flights through DGCA. Permission to fly charter to Amritsar could be obtained with one week notice to DGCA.

The minimum duration of the Tourist charter to India shall be 1 week and maximum 4 weeks. Indian Passport Holders are also permitted to travel by ITP Charter Flights. All arrangements in India for the Tourists will be through Indian Tour Operators recognized by Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India.”

“There is no limitation on the frequency of flights or size of the aircraft. We wish to link our charter flights to Jaipur, Agra, Jammu for Mata Vaishno Devi and other places where Tourists will be keen to visit. There will be number of packages. I shall be meeting the forum of Indian Tour Operators soon at Delhi. The entry and exit point of the charter need not to be same. They can land at Amritsar and can fly out of India from other destination or vice a versa,” he further added.
